Sharing the fibre-optic network to accelerate growth in terms of homes already connected and potential new customers is part of Nos’s plans; the company signed a new agreement with Vodafone earlier this year. And extending such agreements to other operators is not out of the question, as Nos’s finance director, José Koch Ferreira, revealed during a conference call with analysts as part of the presentation of the first-half results.
“We are always looking for new opportunities to expand the fibre-optic network,” the director emphasised at the meeting, which was also attended by Manuel Ramalho Eanes, executive director.
Nos’s directors noted that earlier this year they signed a new agreement with Vodafone for the development and reciprocal sharing of fibre-optic infrastructure, which will cover around 1.1 million homes nationwide. Taking into account the partnership they had already entered into in 2017, they will now share fibre access to 3.9 million homes.
When asked about the specific start date for this recent agreement and future expansion plans, the executives commented that “apart from Vodafone, there are other operators in the market”, thus opening the door to new partnerships.
