Here’s a question almost everyone asks.

Which Android TV box should I choose to use my favourite apps?

There are countless apps for watching live TV. For films and TV series, there are even more of them.

To make things even more complicated, there are verified and unverified apps. The verified ones offer a better guarantee that they’re legal. After all, no one can imagine Netflix streaming content without authorization.

Verified apps include, for example, Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO, Pluto TV, Plex TV, Tubi TV, etc...

As for the unverified ones… well, we could fill a whole page just with links...

What’s important about the box we’re going to use.

Ideally, it should be a Google-certified box. After all, we don’t want the Play Store (now Google Play) to malfunction. Yes, there are several boxes where the ROMs (the operating system they use) are not certified. In that case, the Google Play Store won’t work properly. The same applies to Netflix. There are boxes that come with Netflix, but when an update is released, the Google Play Store won’t let you update it, saying it’s not permitted.

Another important point is the amount of RAM required. Imagine having an IPTV service with 2,000 channels plus films and series ‘On Demand’. When you open the app to use this service, the box has to load all the images (logos) and descriptions for each of these TV channels, films and series. To do this, and then still be able to change channels, the box needs to have some working memory.

Finally, to install all the apps we want (which will be added to those the system already has), the box needs to have some storage capacity. Nobody wants to be installing an app only for the system to automatically uninstall another one to make space. Worse still, installing something and the box simply freezing and failing to restart. It ends up as a nice paperweight.

In addition to this memory (RAM and storage), a good processor will also be needed to perform tasks quickly.

In short, and so as not to make this article too long, the box you buy should have at least a quad-core processor (ideally better), 2 GB of RAM (working memory) and 16 GB of ROM (storage space).

Our shop stocks several boxes that meet all the requirements mentioned here. Furthermore, there are versions with the latest Android OS, Bluetooth 5.2 and other features that make these little boxes a fantastic media centre.
